While the first rule of girls’ weekend might not be the same as the first rule of Fight Club, it’s still crucial to keep in mind. Girls’ weekend is a time to let loose, have fun, and make memories with your closest friends. It’s a time to disconnect from the stresses of daily life and enjoy the company of the women who know you best. And while it’s important to share some of the highlights of your trip with others, it’s also a must to respect the privacy of your fellow gal pals.
Alright ladies, say it with me in your best Vegas voice: “What happens on girls’ weekend, stays on girls’ weekend!” And just like Vegas, we’ll pretend it never happened when we get back home. Except for the pictures, those are definitely going on the Gram! So go ahead, have a blast with your girls, and keep the memories between you and your closest confidantes. Remember, snitches, get stitches, bitches!
Now that we’ve established ground rules, let’s get on with it. Galentine’s Day, celebrated on February 13th, is the most beautiful time of the year! It may seem like a made-up holiday to some, but true Galentine’s Day devotees know that it’s way more than that. So what is Galentine’s Day, you ask? Did it just pop out of nowhere? Well, it kind of did. We have the hilarious Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler in Parks and Recreation, to thank for this fantastic day to celebrate the power of female friendship.
For our Galentine’s trip this year, my friends and I went to Chateau Elan Winery & Resort in the rolling foothills of GA. It’s an excellent destination for wine enthusiasts and those looking to relax and unwind in a beautiful upscale setting. Chateau Elan is situated on 3,500 acres of lush land and offers a variety of activities to guests. In addition to wine tastings and tours, the resort features a spa, multiple restaurants, a golf course, and a cooking school. The luxurious accommodations include guest rooms, suites, and villas, each with unique charm and features.
We arrived early evening on Friday February 11th and immediately fell in love with the immaculate grounds. We were greeted with champagne and Valet attendants to help unpack the car. After getting settled in our rooms, we decided to eat at Paddy’s Irish Pub. Of course, we were all overdressed, but we didn’t care. We were there to have fun and not worry about what others had to say about our outfit choices, so that’s exactly what we did. We found a table near the musician and enjoyed the lively atmosphere while sipping on some delicious drinks and indulging in some of the resort’s delectable cuisine.
On Saturday, we had brunch at Fleur de Lis, a restaurant with a scenic view of the lake at the Chateau Elan Spa. Their Avocado Toast was one of the most delicious ones I’ve ever tasted. Avocado toast is my jam, and I consider myself a self-proclaimed expert in all things avocado. So when it comes to a good avocado toast, trust me, I know my stuff. We then indulged in bottomless peach bellinis, soothing massages, and the relaxing hot tub for the rest of the afternoon. It was the perfect way to unwind on a lazy Saturday. For dinner, we headed to Marc Restaurant, a Southern-inspired steakhouse that provided a unique and delightful dining experience. We wrapped up the evening by heading to Louis’ House of Bourbon, where we enjoyed post-dinner drinks, listened to great music, and people-watching.
On Sunday, we visited the Versailles Restaurant & Bar, located in Chateau Elan’s stunning glass-topped atrium. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!!! We thoroughly enjoyed every meal and drink during our stay at the resort and it was an absolute treat to nosh on the delectable cuisine and beverages while exploring the beautiful surroundings. One of the best aspects of having our Galentine’s celebration at the resort was that we didn’t have to worry about driving or taking an Uber. Almost all of the amenities were within walking distance, except for Marc Restaurant, which is located in a separate building. However, the resort offers a convenient shuttle service to take guests between the two locations.
Listen up ladies, if my weekend Facebook and Instagram story posts didn’t make you want to visit this place or plan your next trip with your besties, then you must have a serious case of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) deficiency. But don’t worry, I’m here to cure that for you.
Here are my top 10 reasons why every girl should experience Galentine’s Day at least once in her life:
1. Carpooling with friends on a girls’ trip can be a fun and cost-effective way to travel. It’s also great for bonding, sharing stories, and creating new memories. If you’re anything like my squad, we karaoke our way to our destination, giving Beyonce’ a run for her money, complete with wireless microphones.
2. You can bond over shared experiences and make new memories with your besties. Bonding over shared experiences and making new memories with your besties is good because it strengthens your friendship by creating a sense of connection and belonging. It’s also a time for fun and laughter, reduces stress, and helps you develop a support system that can benefit your mental health and overall well-being.
3. It’s a day/weekend dedicated to celebrating your female friendships. What could be better than that? Spending quality time with your female friends and appreciating the unique bond you share can be a fantastic way to celebrate Galentine’s Day. You could plan a fun activity together, have a girls’ night in, or send a heartfelt message to tell your friends how much they mean to you. But ultimately, what matters most is taking the time to honor and cherish the influential women in your life.
4. Girls’ trips can promote personal growth and self-care in several ways. First, they offer an opportunity to step out of one’s daily routine and engage in activities that promote relaxation, adventure, or personal interests. This can help to reduce stress and anxiety and promote mental and emotional well-being. Second, girls’ trips can encourage women to try new things, step outside their comfort zones, and take risks. This can lead to increased self-confidence, personal growth, and a sense of accomplishment. Third, girls’ trips can promote self-care by providing an opportunity to prioritize individual needs, such as getting rest and exercising.
5. Taking a break from everyday life: Let’s face it, life can be stressful. Between work, family, and other obligations, finding time to relax and recharge can be challenging. Taking a Galentine’s Day trip allows you and your friends to take a break from everyday life and focus on yourselves. Whether a day trip or a weekend getaway, a Galentine’s Day trip is the perfect opportunity to unwind and rejuvenate.
6. Creating new traditions: Galentine’s Day is still relatively new, which means there’s no set way to celebrate it. However, you can create new traditions with your friends by taking a Galentine’s Day trip. Whether it’s a yearly road trip, a spa day, or a weekend getaway, you can make Galentine’s Day a special day that you and your friends look forward to every year.
7. No boys allowed! Sometimes it’s nice to take a break from the men in our lives and hang out with our girlfriends. No need to worry about impressing anyone or looking cute for a date. It’s just you and your gal pals having a blast and making memories.
8. Create inside jokes that are so hilarious they’ll make you pee your pants. When I’m with my gal pals, the laughter never stops. From ridiculous stories to embarrassing moments, a Galentine’s Day trip is the perfect opportunity to come up with funny moments you’ll be laughing about for years to come. We have so many inside jokes; it’s like we’re speaking our own language. We like to make hashtags out of them and use them all the time. This weekend we had some real gems like #walkingstick, #dontbeweird, and #iwork. But trust me; we have a whole vault of jokes that only we understand. It’s like our secret society, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
9. Try something new: A Galentine’s Day trip is the perfect chance to try something new and exciting with your friends. Whether it’s a wine tasting tour or a cooking class, you’ll have the opportunity to explore new interests and create shared experiences. Trying something new together can develop a sense of adventure and bonding among friends. It allows you to step out of your comfort zone, challenge yourselves, and support each other in the process. Plus, learning a new skill or exploring a new hobby can significantly enhance personal growth and cultivate a sense of self-discovery.
10. Having fun!: Galentine’s Day is like a cheat day for the soul. It’s all about letting loose and having a blast with your besties. Forget the diet, the deadlines, and the drama, and indulge in some serious fun. From boozy brunches to impromptu karaoke sessions, a Galentine’s Day trip is a guaranteed good time. You’ll return feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on the world (or at least the next workweek). After all, life is too short to take everything too seriously. Sometimes you just need to have a little fun! I mean, I haven’t laughed this hard since…well, since the last girls’ trip!
So there you have it, my top 10 reasons why every girl should experience Galentine’s Day. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, this day is all about celebrating the love and friendship between women.
Galentine’s weekend is the ultimate celebration of sisterhood, brunch, and mimosas. So, whether single or in a relationship, grab your best gal pals and indulge in a weekend full of laughter, love, and plenty of selfies. After all, as Leslie Knope said, “We need to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, and work. Or waffles, friends, work. But work has to come third.” So, cheers to friendship, and don’t forget to bring the waffles!
