Thanksgiving is a holiday that encourages us to be grateful for what we have and to celebrate the bonds of family and friendship. My wish for you this Thanksgiving is that you’ll find time to sit down with your loved ones, enjoy some good food, and reflect on what matters most.
While I’m thankful all year, during Thanksgiving, I especially like to reflect on the blessings in my life. I believe that gratitude plays a vital role in our lives. Gratitude helps me appreciate what I have and develop a positive mindset about the future. It makes me more resilient when things don’t go as planned. And it brings me closer to God because I’m too busy looking for ways to show my gratitude instead of focusing on what’s wrong in my life or what I don’t have.
This time of year is also an excellent time to think of the special people in your life. It’s a time to remember those who have gone before us and to celebrate the ones who are still with us. It’s also a time to appreciate all the gifts we have been given and for the fact that we can share those gifts with others.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to count the blessings bestowed upon me. My family is everything to me. They are my motivation, my reason for being, and the reason I continue to grow spiritually. The love I have for them is unconditional and unwavering. My family means more to me than anything else in this world. They make me happy, they make me sad, but they always support me and love me no matter what. We’ve endured many trials and tribulations over the years, but we’ve always been able to learn and grow from them.
My family has become smaller over the years because of death or distance. Sad but that hasn’t changed how much I love them or how important they are to me. There’s nothing more important than having a support system like that by your side when things get tough.
As a wife and working mom, it’s easy for me to feel overwhelmed. I’m constantly trying to balance the demands of my family with those of my career. I think about the laundry, dinner, the kids’ schedules, and more. I’m constantly worried about how my family will fare if I don’t get things done. This holiday season looks a little different. I’m being intentional about spending quality time with my family and worrying less about completing chores, running errands, and other household duties.
Of course I can’t leave my friends out when talking about being thankful. Friends are the family you choose, and I’ve been blessed to have been able to select some fantastic people. Some of them are in my life every day; others are more sporadic. Some live far away, but we keep in touch through social media, phone calls, or texts. Others live down the street, but we don’t see each other often enough. My friends have been there when I needed them. They’ve made me laugh when all I could do was cry.
I am so lucky to have them in my life. And forever grateful for the friends who motivate me to be better because they challenge me to be my best self. I’m thankful for the friends who make me laugh until my stomach hurts so much that it will burst. I’m grateful for all the fun times we’ve had together. Girl’s trips, road trips, family game nights, family vacations, eating dinner and drinking wine (or tequila), late-night phone calls just because we needed someone to talk to. You get the idea! I’m super thankful for friends who don’t judge but listen and help.
Certainly not last on my laundry list of things I’m thankful for is our home. And by that, I mean my kitchen. It’s the heart of our home and where we spend a lot of time together as a family. I started thinking about how many times I go into our kitchen in a day. It’s probably one of the most used rooms in our house! We spend most of our time there. It’s also where we have our best family conversations. We discuss school, friends, work, and much more while preparing meals. It is the center of everything we do as a family.
The one thing I always tell people when they ask me what makes my house feel like home is that it has to be full of love and laughter. Which means having lots of fun memories made with all those people who mean the world to me!
I think it’s essential to have a focal point in your home that brings everyone together as one unit. Whether it’s the kitchen or living room, or even an office space, having a place that everyone feels comfortable spending time in is vital to having a happy home life!
I could go on and on about everything I’m thankful for, but I’ll stop here. As I type, I’m supposed to be enjoying some much-needed quality time with my husband In the hot tub.
From my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!!
