Easter is just around the corner! While many of us associate this holiday with cute bunnies, little kids, and colorful eggs, it can be a bit tricky when it comes to finding the perfect gift for teenagers. Just because some of them are starting to give Shaquille O’Neal a run for his money in the height department or have voices deeper than James Earl Jones, doesn’t mean they can’t join in on the Easter festivities!
There’s something special about the Easter Bunny that captures the hearts of children everywhere.
What happens when those children grow up and become “big kids”? Well, for some, the magic of the Easter Bunny never fades. Even as they get older, they still believe in the enchantment of this holiday symbol. My girls may be 14 and 18 but when it comes to Easter egg hunts and Easter baskets, they’re still all in! And as their mom, I’m happy to play Easter Bunny and hide those eggs for as long as they let me.
I’ve hatched a plan, brimming with egg-ceptional Easter basket goodies, that will have even the most sophisticated teens hopping with excitement! Let the egg-citement begin!
Let’s talk about the basket itself. Gone are the days of pastel-colored wicker baskets. Think outside the box and opt for a reusable tote bag, a trendy backpack, or even a sleek metal wire basket. One of my fondest Easter memories was a 10-day trip to California for Spring Break with a girlfriend and our children. We gifted the trip to our kids for Christmas by hiding a Golden Ticket in their stockings.
We were leaving on or just before Good Friday, so the Easter Bunny came a little early. Since our journey started in San Francisco and ended in LA, I stuffed a Simply Southern duffle bag and matching cosmetics bag with everything I thought they’d need such as rain jackets, sandals, gum, portable chargers, sunglasses, gloves, t- shirts, pullovers, air pods, sunscreen, charging cords, and some snacks. It turned out to be a huge hit and a memorable Easter vacation for all of us.
The times may have changed, but our egg-scapades remain! We’ve traded candy for cash in our covert egg-hiding missions, and we’re still crafting those Easter baskets. And fear not, our canine companions won’t be left out – they too shall indulge in their own tail-wagging treats!
